  • Boarder states were the slave states that did not secede
  • Maryland got put under martial law, which is a type of rule which the military is in charge and citizens' rights are suspended.
  • Kentucky favored neither side, but Abraham Lincoln didn't like the idea so he made Kentucky choose, so they chose to support the north.
  • After a while states started to fight, so Abraham Lincoln sent troops in.
  • The Southern Advantages in the war were- More experienced military officers lived in the south,
  • The Northern Advantages in the war were- They had more people, more resources, and more railroads.
  • They started to put metal on ships when in battle to protect them.

  • April 6, 1861- Virginia left the the Union
  • May 1861- Arkansas , Tennessee, and North Carolina joined the confederacy.
  • September 1861- Kentucky was forced to pick a side, so they picked to support the North.
  • September 17, 1862- It was the bloodiest day in the Civil war. In the Union there were nearly 12,000 casualties wich were people killed, wounded, or that have gone missing in battle. Lee, South, Lost 14,000 men which was about a third of his army.
  • December 1862- Burnside, north, took a bold change and lost 13,000 men out of 120,000 while Lee, south, only lost 5,000 out of 75,000.
  • April 1865- Surrender at Appomattox

Abraham Lincoln- (February 12, 1809-April 15, 1865)

  • Said that rebellion existed in the south states. Lived to be age 56. He was a commanding general for the confederacy. He fought for the north.

Robert E. Lee - (January 19, 1807 – October 12, 1870)

  • He was a military commander and was best known for commanding the Army of North Virginia in the American Civil War. His nickname was Marble Man. He fought for the south.
